ANNUAL DAUGHERTY TOW
NSHIP VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
Monday night several firefighters from New Brighton were on site at Daugherty TWP VFD in order to train on our new forcible entry simulator. This training was taught by Daugherty Captain Brian Norman.
Daugherty Township Volunteer Fire Department held their first annual Corn Hole Tournament. This was a double Elimination style tournament with 15 teams signing up. During the tournament there was food and beverage available. We raffled off a Penguin themed corn hole set and had a 50/50 drawing with the winner receiving $85.00. The winners of the tournament came from the loser’s bracket with them winning two games in a row. The first-place team was “Beer Money” and second place was “FTF”. The winners received $90.00 and the second-place team received $60.00.
Our next Corn Hole Tournament will be February 29, 2020. Watch our website for more details.
This is the time of year for brush fires
Unlike many natural disasters, most wildfires are caused by people—and can be prevented by people, too. Meteorologists are not yet able to forecast wildfire outbreaks, so people in fire-prone areas should plan ahead and prepare to evacuate with little notice. Here are some tips on how to prevent wildfires and what to do if you're caught in the middle of one.
August 7, 2017 Daugherty VFD just received a new to us heavy rescue. The heavy rescue is a 1997 Quality. It was purchased from Marshall Township VFD. It was purchased through the Fire Fighter Relief Association. No taxpayer money was used in the purchase of this equipment.
July 29, 2017 Daugherty Township VFD along with North Swickley and New Brighton were called out Saturday morning at 0630 hrs for the annual McGuire Home drill. This year the three departments evacuated the home in record time of 39 minutes.
July 22, 2017, Saturday, Daugherty VFD held a Pump Refresher Class. It was attended by Harry Girting III, Harry Schmidley, Jarrod Druschel, Josh Goble, Jeff Reynolds, Adam Waxler, Dennis Stone and Ashley Stone. We would like to thank Jack Skrlac for instructing the class.
June 17, 2017 Daugherty, New Brighton and Beaver Falls had a combined extrication drill at Daugherty fire station.
June 13, 2017 Daugherty VFD had 16 requests or calls in a 5 hours period for trees and or wires down.
Saturday May 13 Daugherty VFD spent the morning training on bus fires. Also this gave sometime for the pump operators to practice.
May 6 and 7 members from Daugherty, Big Knob and Pine Run spent the weekend training for Bus Rescues. This class was held at Daugherty Volunteer Fire Department. The class was taught by Steve Kline from Berkley Hills Fire Department And Ross/Westview EMS.
A big thanks to Herzogs for towing the bus to and from the fire station and for providing the rotator during training.
